Pray Through the Week With Your Class

Simple daily ways to increase devotion in the classroom.

By Barb Szyszkiewicz

The Church calls us in a special way to increase our faith by dedicating each day of the week to a different devotion.

Did you know that the Catholic Church has special devotions for each day of the week? Try these simple ways to incorporate these devotions into your daily classroom prayers.

MONDAY: Dedicated to the Holy Souls in Purgatory

Practice: Pray for deceased members of your family and community.

Pray the Prayer of St. Gertrude for the Holy Souls in Purgatory:

Eternal Father, I offer Thee the Most Precious Blood of Thy Divine Son, Jesus, in union with the masses said throughout the world today, for all the holy souls in purgatory, for sinners everywhere, for sinners in the universal Church, those in my own home and within my family. Amen.

TUESDAY: Dedicated to the Holy Angels

Practice: Do a good deed in secret for someone else, to mimic the unseen good deeds the angels do for us.

Pray the Prayer to St. Michael the Archangel:

St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle.
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil.
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

Pray the Guardian Angel Prayer:

Angel of God, my guardian dear, to whom His love commits me here,
Ever this day be at my side, to light and guard, to rule and guide. Amen

WEDNESDAY: Dedicated to St. Joseph

Practice: Pray for the Church, for fathers, and for families.

Pray the Litany to St. Joseph:

He made him the lord of his household. And prince over all his possessions.

Let us pray. O God, in your ineffable providence you were pleased to choose Blessed Joseph to be the spouse of your most holy Mother; grant, we beg you, that we may be worthy to have him for our intercessor in heaven whom on earth we venerate as our Protector: You who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.

That with your saints I may praise you
For ever and ever. Amen.
