Great Ideas: Special Seats

Special Seats

To encourage student participation and effort in class I have created a special seating area in my classroom. I placed a small rug, a table, and two bright green, furry chairs in my classroom. Students who participate and demonstrate outstanding effort and good behavior are rewarded with the opportunity to sit in the chairs for the morning or afternoon. While teaching, I simply say, “I wonder who will sit in the chairs today?” and hands shoot up, students sit up straighter, and work is completed on time. This easy motivator is something we all enjoy.
