Great Ideas: Blends and Dioramas

Blends and Dioramas

To provide a different approach to phonics, I assign a phonics blend to each row of children. They must create a diorama using as many words with that blend as possible. For example, the “s” blend might make a street. Along the street, they might put stop signs. There might be a store with skates and surfboards or even a gas station at the end of the street. The students label the items, showing the blends as they describe their diorama to the class. The projects are then displayed in the hallway.
