Great Ideas: Saint Stop Motion Project

Help older students understand the importance of th sacrament of Confirmation and the gifts we receive to live out our faith.

Understanding the importance of Confirmation can be daunting; therefore, designing an interactive religion technology project with students and industry experts was a way that my upper school students engaged not only in valuing the lives of the saints more but also in understanding their own personal role as missionary disciples.

This technology project — Saint Stop Motion Project — is structured in four parts: script writing, storyboard and art design, video animation, and playbill composition. Each of these parts is supplemented by Skype conferences with industry experts such as NYU animators and Catholic children’s book authors.

Students learn a variety of skills from each of these tasks, leading to a final presentation to their peers and their lower school buddies. In the end, their audience votes using Oscar categories and then presents winning groups with mini-trophies.
